Well, just a while back I told you about the first virus for PDAs. Well today the first Pocket PC trojan was found. Kaspersky Labs introduced the Backdoor.WinCE.Brador.a, a trojan that creates an executable file in the PDA's autorun folder so that it takes over whenever the device is turned on. It identifies the IP address, contacts the author and opens port 44299 for further commands.
Someone actually told me today that they were considering giving up their PDA because they were afraid of PDA viruses. That has to be the silliest thing I've ever heard of. Everyday day, we fight spam, spyware, trojans, popups, and viruses and yet we use our home and office computers more than ever.
I'm not really concerned about the run of the mill PDA viruses and trojans, but I am worried about the bigger possibility. It won't be long till someone develops a virus that transports itself thru the PDA syncing process. What that means is someone could possibly infect several computers with their PDA. Not trying to scare anyone, but it's something to think about. |
