I found the coolest PHP script the other day. GMail-Lite allows you to check Goolge Mail from any browser.  The cool part is that it pulls your mail as html so you can read it from any browser, including your PDA.  Works great with my Treo 270.  Of course you'll need your own PHP enabled server, but the upload is easy since  there is no configuration neccessary.  More at the GMailer Homepage
