Movies and TV

by William Hungerford, Movie Buff and Couch Potato Extraordinaire

I'm addicted to movies and television. There! I said it, let the cleansing begin. Nah, I think I'll go watch "Fear of a Black Hat" instead. I really enjoy the entertainment value of television and movies. What amazes me is as technology progresses, entertainment is as close as a click of a mouse or touch of a stylus. There's nothing better than watching a movie or a sporting event while working on your computer. In fact, lately I've really started using my Palm Powered handheld as a portable multimedia center. Sometimes people don't realize what can be done on that little machine (that little machine probably has at least twice the power of your first home computer!).

To really make your handheld a multimedia center, you've got to have the right software. Being a software developer and the Palmtops/PDA Guide at About.com (http://www.palmtops.about.com), I often come across cool Movie/TV based software. The information on the list covers several types of software. First we'll start off on the right track by helping you organize your favorite movies and keep up with movie reviews with some great movie database software. The next step is to help you organize your TV watching adventure with some TV Listing software. If you're like me, you're constantly losing your remote (I blame the kids). We even found software that turns your PDA into a universal remote. Isn't technology grand! Be sure to also check out software to view movies and trailers on your PDA. Overall, we hope to make your entertainment on a Palm Powered handheld an enjoyable experience.

Wow! Who knew I could do that

Steve S.

Recently I bought a new Zire 71. Little did I realize how great the Palm is as a multi-media device. I now listen to mp3's, watch movie trailers, and I even created some small home movies on my PC to play on my Palm. With the digital camera on the Zire 71, I take tons of impromptu pictures and create some slideshow for my friend and family.

Palm as a legitimate entertainment PDA

Barry K.

I recently traded my Pocket PC for a Tungsten C. My first PDA was a Palm IIIC which I loved but hated the fact that I couldn't listen to mp3s , had no expansion slots, or couldn't watch video or news clips. That lack of features caused me to buy a Pocket PC but I was never happy with the stability. Once I knew that Palm OS5 supported faster processors, I knew I had to go back to Palm.
