Well, I'm sure you notice very little posting lately. I've decided to keep my focus on my Palmtops site at About.com and my Wired Home Blog. This site will remain as an archive of my previously published articles. Feel free to explore all of the articles on this site. Also be sure to check out the other sites. Thanks! |

Ever had a Windows XP machine that was in permanent reboot mode? Basically just before the computer goes into Windows, it starts over and does this cycle forever. It most cases it will also lock up when you try to go into safe mode. Well after years of replacing the harddrive of computers with this problem, I stumbled on a fix after trial and error.
This fix has worked on several Dell computers running Windows XP:
Boot to your Windows XP disk. When you get the option, go to "R" for "Repair"
You should now be a a dos prompt in the recovery console.
Type: chkdsk then hit enter. This will run checkdisk. If it does not run checkdisk (you will see the % ticker if it does), then run chkdsk /p to force the checkdisk
Now you should be at the dos prompt again. Type fixmbr
It will ask if you're sure, just say yes.
When done remove the XP CD and reboot into safe mode first. Select restart and let it reboot into normal Windows mode. Hopefully it comes up now and now you should be out of permanent reboot mode. Like I said, this has only been tested with Windows XP and Dell Computers, but hasn't failed me yet on about a dozen attempts. Of course, this won't work for everyone but good luck and post a comment letting us know if it worked for you. |

A while back, I promised you a review of the Motorola IMfree. Here ya go:

I have to say, I'm interested in anything that makes my life more mobile and tears me away from my computer. When I heard that Motorola has created a device that would allow me to IM (Instant Message) my friends from anywhere in the house, I was intrigued. Sure, you could use a PDA and get the same results, but what is unique about the IMfree is a complete package that includes a 900 MHz base station. Let's start by talking about why you would want Mobile IM. [more]

I found the coolest PHP script the other day. GMail-Lite allows you to check Goolge Mail from any browser. The cool part is that it pulls your mail as html so you can read it from any browser, including your PDA. Works great with my Treo 270. Of course you'll need your own PHP enabled server, but the upload is easy since there is no configuration neccessary. More at the GMailer Homepage |

Well, I'm taking my first official vacation in years and won't be around the computer much. I'll be back later in the week to share my adventures with you (I'm sure you can't wait!) |

I just read an article that the Hilton Hotel Chain has created a PDA friendly website for their hotel chain. I'm just wondering how many morons will be surfing to the site looking for porn? |

I'm listening to oldies on the radio right now, and just don't understand how Nancy Sinatra didn't become bigger than her dad. Come on, with lyrics like this, how could you go wrong?
You keep lying, when you oughta be truthin' and you keep losin' when you oughta not bet. You keep samin' when you oughta be changin'. Now what's right is right, but you ain't been right yet.
I guess proper english wasn't in demand back then. The funny thing is Hank William's cover of the same song make Nancy's lyrics look less stupid.
You keep lying when you oughta be true then And you keep loosin' when you ought enough bad Now you keep a samin' when you oughta be changin' Now what's right is right and honey you ain't been right yet These boots are made for walkin'...
His lyrics don't even make sense. In case you couldn't tell, I'm kinda bored today.
